The Arboretum

The Beauty of Nature

Every Monday morning I usually begin my day by walking to my English class, located at the Willard building, however, this Monday was different; instead of going into a classroom, we went into a garden! My English professor took us on a trip to Penn State’s Arboretum, which is basically a botanical garden. Unlike a couple of my classmates, walking to the garden was not so difficult, because it was really close to my dorm; however I despise the cold and that morning was as cold as Penn State has been so far since I have been here. The horrible weather made the 10 minute walk feel like 30! Nevertheless, once we arrived, my mood completely changed. The garden made me relax and gave me a peaceful state of mind.  The sun was also out and shinning at the garden, amplifying the beautiful details of the flowers (and also blessing me with its warmth!). I've never really noticed how beautiful the colors of the flowers were! They weren't just any ordinary red or purple, it was more like a unique royal kind of colors that the flowers had.  Everything was just so beautiful! I even enjoyed watching the bees collect nectar from the huge sunflowers; I have never seen such big and tall sunflowers, and there were a lot of them!
My favorite part of the garden was when I found the fountain.  It was just so stunning and elegant!! The sun shined upon the water making the sparkly drops look like little crystals. My group members and I just stood there for a few minutes to admire the whole thing, and even when it was turned off, the fountain was still engaging, there were a bunch of little footprints at the bottom of the fountain, and the water seemed to refreshing it made us wish it were a pool we can jump into.
This was the first time I have ever been to Penn State’s Arboretum, and I can honestly say I had a really nice first experience. Everything was very appeasing to eyes, the environment was very peaceful and clean, despite the construction that was going on, and the setting was just so comfortable to be in; if you ever just want to go sit down and admire the surroundings or to just do some homework, you can! There were plenty of benches.

I don’t really consider myself a nature lover and I think it has a lot to do with my elementary school trips. Every year, we would go at least three times a year to the same botanical garden that now I can’t even drive by it!  The Arboretum is the first garden I have been to since 5th grade. Nonetheless, I think I would go back to the Arboretum garden with my friends. On those random days where you just want to do something relaxing, like taking a walk, the Arboretum would be a great place to go and get lost in your peaceful thoughts.

  1. So glad you enjoyed our visit!

Why does your font size seem to change halfway though?

  2. The picture you took are absolutely beautiful! I didn't get a chance to venture out all the way to get that close to the fountain but I agree that it must of been very serene. I was also very pleasantly surprised when I went to the Arboretum, so I'm glad you enjoyed it too!
